Budgets are being slashed and IT managers should review performance objectives and job responsibilities with employees to guarantee that they reflect the needs of the organization. IT managers should utilize the following best practices to establish an employee's actual value and also to help employees to develop meaningful, measurable performance objectives:

  • Require staff members to provide a key value statement.
  • Compare key value statements against current job requirements.
  • Develop measurable and meaningful performance objectives.

Changing IT requirements and draconian budget cuts continue to impact IT headcounts. As a result, managers must ensure employees effectively perform their job responsibilities and contribute to the organization's success. Otherwise, layoffs are likely.
